Alvin Malesky, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Alvin Malesky is a professor at Western Carolina University (WCU) and has served as head of the Psychology Department at WCU for the past nine years. He is a licensed psychologist in North Carolina and Virginia and has extensive training in the practice of forensic psychology. 

Dr. Malesky received his B.A. in Psychology from George Mason University, his M.S. in Counseling from The University of Southern Mississippi, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Memphis. He completed his forensic focused Doctoral Internship at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina and his Postdoctoral Forensic Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He also earned an MBA from WCU in 2016.

Dr. Malesky is an accomplished researcher and presenter. He has 24 publications in peer-reviewed journals, has authored three book chapters, and lists over 75 presentations at academic conferences. In addition, his research has been cited in two state Supreme Court rulings. Dr. Malesky has also received numerous research and teaching awards over the past 18 years. 

Finally, Dr. Malesky has testified as an expert witness and has appeared as a guest expert on several television news shows. Dr. Malesky also served as a Deputy Sheriff in Fairfax County before attending graduate school.
