Phil Atkinson, Ph.D., ABPP
Clinical Psychologist
Phil Atkinson, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist with over 12 years of experience working with military and civilian personnel in high-risk occupations.
Dr. Atkinson has served as the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) Psychologist at the JFK Special Operations Center & School at Fort Bragg, NC, and as a Staff Psychologist at a Special Mission Unit. He has provided psychological consultation to worldwide special operations missions, including serving multiple combat deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other high-threat locations. He has conducted psychological suitability assessments for hundreds of military and civilian candidates for high-risk occupations, and has clinical specialties in stress-management and treating post-traumatic stress.
After transitioning to the private sector, Dr. Atkinson has continued to provide risk management consultation and training for multiple Department of Defense and Intelligence Community organizations, and regularly conducts risk assessments for the Marine Special Operations Command, Army Special Forces, the Joint Special Operations Command, and several Special Mission Units. He is also the founder and Clinical Director of Kairos Counseling Center, a multidisciplinary private practice that provides psychotherapy and psychological assessment services.
He received his doctorate from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. He continues to serve in the Army Reserves at the US Army Special Operations Command.
